Tips

Its easier to play slide if your action is a bit high, that way you don't fret out with the slide. One of the great breakthroughs I had when learning was to just lift the slide off the strings after a lick and move on to another. Try it and see how it helps. Remember to keep your slide right on top of the fret and perfectly straight, later you can try tilting the slide. Dampening is crucial to making slide sound in tune. You can use your right hand fingers or the pick to dampen. Play a note and then touch that string again to dampen it. For the licks below use the pick symbols and slide to the next note, the next note is not played with the pick. The wavy  lines are vibrato...........ready?

These licks are in the key of E, the easiest key for slide

Riff #1 is the daddy of them all, you've heard it a million times. Slide almost to the 9th fret and then hit the G string.

Same thing with riff #2. For #3 lift your slide off the strings after you hit the E string and then continue.

Riff #4 skips over a string and land on the E note
